Frostburg Field Hockey Falls Short to Lindenwood

The Bobcat field hockey team played Lindenwood on Sunday, Sept. 29th. This is the second time this season the field hockey team faced off with the Lindenwood Lions. Frostburg suffered a loss to Lindenwood in their previous match-up. Lindenwood would come out with another win against the Bobcats on Sunday with a final score of 3-1.

Frostburg trailed behind Lindenwood for the majority of the game. Starting at the 21-minute mark,  Bridget Hoogendijk of the Lions would open up the game with the first point on the board. Following almost immediately after, Frostburg senior Logan Gladden scored with no assist at the 22-minute mark for the Bobcats to tie up the game. Gladden had herself a total of 3 shots for the game. Frostburg followed with several shots coming from junior Gabby Rachuba (2), junior Sam Coffey (1), and first-year Taylor Henderson (1).

The strong effort from the Bobcats was not enough to triumph over Lindenwood. Frostburg took only a total of 9 shots while Lindenwood had 17.

Lindenwood brought the tie to an immediate halt when Hoogendijk scored again for the Lions with an assist from Megan Martin. Later on, Jessie Londono scored with an assist from Caro Theunisz to securely put the Lions ahead of the Bobcats (3-1).

Bobcat senior goalie Sierra Smizer played a competitive game for the Bobcats. Smizer faced 17 shots through the whole game and earned herself 9 saves.

Frostburg is currently standing with a record of 0-10. They will be returning to Bobcat Stadium when they host Slippery Rock on Tuesday, Oct. 8th.
