Frostburg Field Hockey Loses in OT

The Frostburg State field hockey team faced off against the Seton Hill Griffins on Wednesday, Sept. 25th. Both teams were entering without a win so far for this season. Seton Hill came into the game with a record of 0-4, and the Bobcats had a record of 0-7.

The Bobcats trailed behind for the majority of the game. Seton Hill’s Nicole Susi scored with an assist from Wynnsome Gadson 7 minutes into playing time to opening the scoring. This would immediately put Senton Hill at a 1-0 lead.

Frostburg’s team fought back hard as they took a total of 18 shots. Bobcat junior Gabby Rachuba was able to pair with an assist from sophomore Sam Coffey at the 35-minute mark to put the Bobcats on the board. Rachuba is now leading the team in goals this season. The game would find itself at a deadlock for the remaining time at a score of 1-1.

When the Bobcats and Griffins entered into OT, each of the teams took every chance they had at the opposing goals. Frostburg first-year Taylor Henderson racked up 8 shots for herself during the game. Rachuba and senior Logan Gladden also each took 3 shots in an attempt to gain the lead over the Griffins in OT.

Frostburg defense reminded sturdy during OT when senior goalie Sierra Smizer saved a total of 8 shots during her full 68 minutes of gameplay. Junior Brooke Lafayette also saved a shot for the Bobcats in OT. This is Lafayette’s second save of the season.

In the final remaining minutes of the game, the Bobcats were not able to get passed the Seton Hill goalie Elizabeth Armbruster. Armbruster saved 8 shots during the entire duration of the game for her team. The Griffins were able to come together at 68 minutes when Wynnsome Gadson scored for Seton Hill with an assist from Colleen Roy. The final score would of the game concluded at 2-1 with a Seton Hill’s first win of their season.

Frostburg is currently standing with a record 0f 0-9 for the 2019 season. The Bobcats will be playing home to rematch with Lindenwood on Sunday, Sept. 29th at 11 a.m.
