Frostburg State Men’s Soccer Beats Alderson and Broaddus
Frostburg State Men’s soccer played against Alderson Broaddus on Wednesday, September 15th. Right at the start in the first four minutes of the game, Frostburg took the lead on the scoreboard as a freshman midfielder, Zach Harpel, scored his first collegiate goal. In the seventh minute, Malek Shedid took a shot on goal, which was, unfortunately, saved by the Alderson Broaddus keeper, Diago Gomez.
The goalie for Frostburg State, Joel Assal, made his first save within the first 20 minutes and his second in the 25th minute. In the 26th minute, Kenny Simms subs in for Malex Shedid, who immediately made his mark with his first goal of the season in the 27th minute. Andre Tenorio took a shot at the goal in the 29th minute, but it was saved by goalie Diego Gomez. Alderson Broaddus countered with a shot on goal, which was saved by Joel Assal. The first half ended with a shot on goal taken by Alderson Broaddus which was saved and a subsequent foul on Frostburg. Within the first half, there were three yellow cards on Alderson Broaddus, showing the aggressiveness of the team.
In the second half, Frostburg had the first shot on goal by Bryce Costello, which was saved. Alderson Broaddus countered with a shot, saved by Frostburg keeper Joel Assal. Frostburg received two yellow cards within the first 10 minutes of the second half. Two substitutions took place in the 64th minute for Frostburg with Scott Fernandez coming in for Andre Tenorio and Malek Shedid coming back onto the field. More subs came onto the field with Alex Retzos subbing for Randy Putnam. Kenny Simms tried for a second goal, but it was saved by the Alderson Broaddus keeper. Alex Grasso was subbed out for Galo Cappelletti in the 71st minute. Zach Harpel wanted another goal and took a shot in the 77th minute but it was saved by the Alderson Broaddus keeper. Kenny Simms, the forward who scored the second goal for Frostburg, received a yellow card in the 77th minute. Alderson Broaddus, not wanting to be outdone in the yellow card department, received a yellow card at the 82nd minute thanks to Conrado Quesada pere.
Two more substitutions were made by Frostburg by the end of the game with Malek Shedid and Scott Fernandez coming in for Kenny Simms and Scott Fernandez. By the end of the game, Frostburg had a total of seven shots on goal, with two goals. Alderson Broaddus had twelve shots on goal and no goals. Frostburg keeper had 4 saves and a shut-out. Frostburg led in fouls with 24 while Alderson Broaddus only had 14.
Frostburg won the game 2-0. Another shut-out win for the Bobcats.
