Lady Bobcats Soccer Ties Match Against Gettysburg College

The lady Bobcats soccer team challenged Gettysburg College of PA, Wednesday, September 30th. After arriving at the Bullets field in Pennsylvania, it was clear this game would be a very intricate one, as the Bullets currently stand as the 9th ranked team.

Gettysburg’s Julia Ramsey took control early, scoring within the first ten minutes of the game advancing the score to 1-0. It wasn’t long after that Ramsey was able to score her second goal of the night. Finding the upper corner of the net, Gettysburg was up with a 2-0 lead with just 22 minutes into the game. The lady Bullets’ dominance would make the lady Bobcats fight hard.

Struggling almost the entire first half, the lady Bobcats showed their fortitude through the hardship. Junior Leah Yurko scored FSU’s first goal unassisted. This brought the score to 2-1, proving the lady Bobcats were not to be counted out. Suddenly, just seconds before half time, freshman Danielle Ferris scored her first collegiate goal, officially tying the match, 2-2.

The second half of the game consisted of strong defense by both teams. FSU’s senior goalkeeper Paige Gray was able to block each ball from getting into the Bobcats net which led the game into double overtime. Neither team was able to score during the remainder of the time, resulting in a game-ending score of 2-2.

The lady Bobcats proved their resilience throughout the entire first half. Instead of giving up, due to the lady Bullets scoring so early, they fought hard and were able to tie the game. “I think our girls are finally realizing we have all the keys to have a successful season,” states assistant coach Dani Gunderson. The lady Bobcats enforced teamwork, which made this match so successful in the end.

The next match the lady Bobcats face is against York College of PA. Coach Gunderson’s mindset for the team is to “win the game, we want to go in and show that we are here to play and we know what we’re doing. We already had a big win against Christopher Newport (1-0) this past weekend and that was huge for a confidence builder”.

Reigning CAC Tournament Champions, the team hopes to not only make it back and win, but to go further than they did last year. “We’re looking to get as many wins as possible so that we can host one of the games in the conference tournament, be one of the top teams and from there we want to be able to win the tournament to get into the NCAA, ultimately getting back to where we were last year.”

Frostburg State’s women’s soccer will challenge York Co. in Pennsylvania on October 2nd at 12:30 p.m.
