Men’s Soccer Falls to York College

On Tuesday afternoon, the Frostburg Bobcats were defeated 1-0 in a highly anticipated game against the York Spartans.

In the sixty-eighth minute, Greg Bechard was able to slip the game’s only goal through the back of the net to give York the lead and ultimately the win. FSU goal keeper Hassan Mostafa had a busy day, ending the game with a solid three saves.

In light of this rough time, it’s just the second conference loss of the season, Frostburg (8-4-1, 2-2-1 CAC) posted 12 shots to York’s 16.

Freshman Kelvin Tata and sophomore Rodrigo Valenzuela each posted three shots for the Bobcats, but none could find the back of the net. Transfer freshman KJ Davis made a few good runs and was able to get two goals off. One of those goals, a diving header, just missed the mark as it grazed the crossbar.

On October 17th, the Bobcats will partake in their first big test of the season by playing St. Mary’s at home for Homecoming. For the past two years, St. Mary’s has won. Davis shares his thoughts by stating, “Every one of us knows that this is a must win game. Our team is strong and we can’t lose at home. We believe in ourselves and hopefully the love from the home crowd will add to the momentum of the game.”

With three games left of the season, one of the biggest concerns is the amount of players that are currently inactive due to injuries and suspensions. Still on the list of upcoming games, are Southern Maryland, Penn State Harrisburg, and Salisbury.

The Bobcat soccer homecoming game takes place on Saturday at 5:00 pm.
