NBA Southwest Division: Mid Season Report
The first half of the regular season and all-star break is over, and the trade deadline is coming soon. Teams in the Southwest division are looking to get in a spot in the play-in tournament, and a spot in the playoffs.
New Orleans Pelicans
Record: 18-24
PPG: Zion Williamson 25.6
RPG: Steven Adams 9.1
APG: Lonzo Ball 5.6
The Pelicans is targeting to get into the playoffs this season by adding Eric Bledsoe and Steven Adams. But, they are struggling to get over a .500 record. The Pelicans two stars Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram are having a good season, but the support is just not enough.
JJ Redick and Lonzo Ball has been in the rumor mill about them getting traded away before the deadline. Right now, it is up in the air whether they will stay or go. The Pelicans can still go to the playoffs, but them winning must start now.
Dallas Mavericks
Record: 21-19
PPG: Luka Doncic 28.5
RPG: Luka Doncic 8.4
APG: Luka Doncic 9.3
The Mavericks are having a surprising season, but not a good surprising. They were 43-32 last season. Doncic is looking unstoppable most games, but they still lose games that they should win. One rumor that has been going on this season is whether Kristaps Porzingis will be traded or not.
Whatever happens the Mavericks still have a chance to make the playoffs.
Memphis Grizzlies
Record: 19-20
PPG: Ja Morant 19.2
RPG: Jonas Valanciunas 12.0
APG: Ja Morant 7.4
A young and upcoming team that is having a good start for themselves. Last season’s rookie of the year Ja Morant is looking good, but not like a superstar yet. There are signs of Morant getting close to it, and Jaren Jackson has not played yet this season. Jackson is expected to make his season debut some time soon, and when he does, that can increase the Grizzlies chances to make the playoffs.
San Antonio Spurs
Record: 22-17
PPG: DeMar DeRozan 20.3
RPG: Jakob Poeltl 7.7
APG: DeMar DeRozan 7.3
Gregg Popovich is showing why he is one of the greatest coaches in sports history. Every player on this team is doing a good job at what their role is and are winning games doing so. DeMar DeRozan is not the same player he used to be on the Raptors, but he still is playing at an all-star level for the first half of the season. Dejounte Murray is playing an amazing all-around game and has potential to be the star of the team in years to come.
LaMarcus Aldridge has been in the rumor mill, and if they can trade him, they can get more young talent or just players to help achieve to be a full championship contender.
Houston Rockets
Record: 11-30
PPG: John Wall 21.0
RPG: Jae’Sean Tate 5.2
APG: John Wall 6.1
The Rockets are not looking very good this season and are sitting second worst in the Western conference. They started the season off looking really good, but after the James Harden trade everything went downhill. Injuries have been the biggest factor for them currently. Victor Oladipo, John Wall, Christian Wood, Eric Gordon, and Danuel House all missed a lot of time the first half of the season.
The Rockets might be looking to trade players like John Wall, Eric Gordon, and Victor Oladipo to receive some young players and draft picks for the future.
