NBA start date
This week we learned that the NBA plans to start their season on December 22nd, 2020. Only 71 days will have passed since game 6 of the NBA finals to that date.
Many teams will be affected by this short break, but mostly the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers since they were in the finals. Some NBA players have a problem with this start date of course, and wanted it to be pushed more towards MLK (Martin Luther King Jr.) day or after the All-Star break. The break that the players will experience will be the shortest in NBA history.
On the bright side the Knicks and the Warriors will have had the longest off season in NBA History. Only 72 games will be played, which can help but should still cause some injuries if teams don’t manage minutes the right way for their star players.
Lets not forget that there are 103 unrestricted free agents and 80 restricted agents. Also, with the 2020 NBA draft coming as well; and lets not forget about the opt out deadline. There will be a lot of movement before the season start date.
I think that NBA teams will rest their star players until they feel that they are ready to go, or they might play them every other game to give them rest. We should be in store for a great season.
With my early predictions I have the Golden State Warriors and the LA Lakers as the front runners for the championship in the west. In the east, I have the Brooklyn Nets and the Miami Heat as the frontrunners for the championship.
