New Women’s Lacrosse Coach Hayley Engster Optimistic About Season

The Lady Bobcats start the new lacrosse season under the direction of new head coach Hayley Engster. Before coming to Frostburg Engster worked as an assistant coach at Goucher College then later as the head coach for Sweet Briar College. Now, she prepares to add Frostburg State to an already impressive resume.Engster web head 16_2

When asked about the season Engster said she is “excited to get the season started.”

In preparation for opening day the women’s team will have two scrimmages, one on February 20th and another on the 27th. This can help gauge where the team is at and Engster said she’s “keeping an open mind about where we are.” Certainly returning talent helps as well. This year the Lady Bobcats return two of their top four scorers in Molly and Megan Hart as well as starting goalkeeper Dylan Teitelbaum, all of which are juniors this season.

Last year Molly Hart finished up the season with 28 goals, six assists, and caused 11 turnovers. Fellow teammate Megan Hart contributed with 12 ground balls and forced seven turnovers. In goal, Teitelbaum ended last season with 113 saves and a 10.1 goals-against-average.

Engster thinks the experience her now veteran players bring to the team can help them do well this season. “Having them as juniors will help some of the younger athletes on the field.”

Of the 18 players listed on the roster this year 11 of them are upperclassman, giving the Lady Bobcats a wealth of experienced players. Certainly this only adds to the talent level for the women’s team and Engster acknowledged that by saying the upperclassman have “a big impact to bring success to the team.”  When asked what she expects from her players Engster said she wants them to be “open-minded” and to “work hard in practice and on their own time.”

Engster hopes to start her first year off right by leading the Lady Bobcats back to the CAC playoffs. With the start of the season right around the corner Engster is confident in her squad saying, “The team has a lot of momentum moving forward.”

The Lady Bobcats will kick the season off at home against Allegheny College of Pa. on Saturday, March 5th at 4 p.m. With the talent filling the roster the Lady Bobcats look to have a strong season this year.
