Philadelphia Eagles future

The Philadelphia Eagles are 2-4-1, and with that record are in first place in the NFC East in the NFL. The Eagles will most likely win their division this year, but I do not think that this team is a super bowl caliber team. The Eagles organization wants to compete for championships every year, and they have been very competitive this year despite injuries to the offensive side of the ball.

What I think should happen this off-season is to address that issue of their offense. Even when the offensive starters do return, they are still not the most elite weapons in the NFC compared to the Buccaneers, Packers, Seahawks, Cardinals, Rams, and 49ers, who have various ways to beat you.

These are powerhouse teams that the eagles will play against and will be hard for them to beat starters there or not. I think the first thing they should do this off-season is to sit Carson Wentz down and have a discussion with him about his contract. He is the 7th highest-paid quarterback in the league and if he wants more valuable weapons beside him he should shave some money off so the eagles could revamp this offense to put them back in super bowl contention.

Their main focus should be to acquire wide receiver talent. Sports analysts see this as the main reason that they are struggling this year. Now there are plenty of wide receivers that they can acquire in the draft and free agency, but to make cap room, they should first trade Zach Ertz.

He wants a contract that would make him the highest-paid in football, and has not played up to it. With the emergence of Dallas Goedert becoming a star tight end still on a rookie deal, it would be smart to trade Zach Ertz for either a valuable receiver or trade him for draft picks.

Also, Desean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery have to go this off-season. Both have barely played games this and last season, and are just eating away at the cap. Hopefully, the eagles could get maybe a 6th or 7th round pick for each of them.

If they want to get a couple of receivers at the trade block, Golden Tate and Kenny stills would be their best options. In free agency, Allen Robinson, Rashad Higgins, Kenny Golladay, Will Fuller, T.Y Hilton, Dede Westbrook, and Sammy Watkins would be the best free agents to go after.

In the draft, they are a couple of options at wide receiver, and they’ll need to address that this off-season with their scouting report. In the past couple of years, the Eagles have passed on capable star receivers in the draft, and it is time they make up for it now. The best in the draft right now would be Ja’Marr Chase or DeVonta Smith. LSU and Alabama have been filling the NFL with wide receiver talents for years, and watching these players so far in college seems like nothing different.
