Tennis Team’s Season Preview

Mary Washington College will open up its tennis court to Frostburg State University’s women’s tennis team, March 16, 2015 for the opening 2015-2016-spring season.

When asked in a recent interview, “What are your goals and expectations for the upcoming season?” head coach, Coach Swink stated, “ I want to have fun, I mean that’s what motivates me, it motivates the kids, we do this to have fun… ”.

This season’s team consists of many talented athletes. With juniors Kayla Kirk and Kaitlin Lemmert leading the team, these lady Bobcats will train hard in the hopes of having an amazing spring season. Having a record of 4-11 from the previous season, these ladies are preparing to improve throughout each meet as well as have fun.

Amber Beckham, a previously senior graduate, contributed to the team tremendously. Competing in No. 1 singles, and No. 1 doubles, Beckham assisted in leading the team during the previous, 2013-2014 season. Although an amazing athlete has finished her term, a key newcomer was gained. Hoping to have an outstanding season, newcomer Kiana Jones was added to the team. Along with Ms. Jones and more, these athletes will compete is this seasons meets and potentially move up in the CAC ranks.

Frostburg State University women’s tennis team recently competed in a preseason poll. In this recently released ‘2015 Capital Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Preseason Coaches’ Poll’, the Bobcat ladies were picked to finish seventh. Seniors Kayla Kirk and Kaitlin Lemmert were the stand out performers. This recognized duo will take on singles and ultimately join together to compete at the No. 1 doubles for the Bobcats.

Competing against colleges such as Salisbury, UNC, Mary Washington, and more, the Bobcat ladies will have competitive meets this season. With this advancement these meets will help to improve these Bobcat ladies not only individually, but also as a whole. This season’s matches not only consist of conference meets but also non-conference meets. Having a broad range of competitors, this season will be challenging. With a positive outlook and determination, the lady Bobcats will be prepared to tackle on this season.
