The 2020 AFC South
Teams of the AFC south were like the final touches on the NFL we see today. The Colts were based in Baltimore until the 1984 season where they became the Indianapolis Colts. The Jacksonville Jaguars were established in 1995. The Tennessee Titans used to be the Houston Oilers until they moved Tennessee and became the Tennessee Oilers. Then in 1999, Tennessee changed the name from Oilers to Titans. Finally, the Houston Texans were established in 2002, causing the forming of the eight divisions we see today.
Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans are leading the AFC south right now with a record of 5-2. They were doing really good until they ran into a better team in the Pittsburg Steelers. They were also beaten by the Cincinnati Bengals which is a team on the opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to team rankings in the NFL. Cincinnati just played harder, and let the freeness of being a bad team at this time give them motivation to play as hard they can. If the Titans had a rough one against the Bengals, it gets no better when the Chicago Bears come to town. A Bears team that could quite possibly be angry about winding up on the losing side of their battle with the Saints last week.
Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts are tied for 1st place in the AFC South, enjoying their new quarterback Philip Rivers. The Colts are coming off a great win against the Lions which was just a confidence booster for Indianapolis. The Colts have a real test this week against the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens are coming off of a loss so it could possibly be the perfect time for the Colts to play them. Indianapolis has a good record, but do we expect anything from them in terms of post-season success, no we do not. All of this could change by beating a team that has super bowl projections for this season.
Houston Texans
The Houston Texans have been a disappointment this season. After starting out 0-4 to start the season, head coach Bill O’Brien was fired after the loss to the Vikings who is another disappointment of this season. It wasn’t just bad play on the field that caused the Texans to get rid of O’Brien, but bad general management decisions made by him such as getting rid of all-pro talent like D’Andre Hopkins, and Jadeveon Clowney. The defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel has since taken over as head coach of the Texans, and while the team responded well the following week after O’Brien’s firing, winning against the division rival Jaguars, its been much of the same story. What the team should be doing now is taking a look at who they would want to hire as their next head coach. Also scoping out talent in this coming draft that can get the franchise over the hump.
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars is another team competing for worse team in the NFL. It was just three years ago that they were in the AFC conference championship game. Easy to see things have went down hill. I’m not sure the Jaguars are solidified at quarterback with Gardner Minshew, or if there are changes to be made in the front office of this team also, but something must change with this team. Just as the Texans are to, it is best if the team gets a head start at looking toward the future. See if there is any great talent coming this draft that could turn the team around. Also, making sure the culture brought by the staff is positive. This week, two teams with nothing to play for. This could be exciting seeing the Jaguars take on the Texans.
