This Week in Frostburg Sports
Women’s Soccer:
After collecting several losses last week, the Bobcats really turned around their season with earning two wins against Gettysburg, who is regionally ranked 10th, on Wednesday (1-0) and Capital Athletic Conference opponent Salisbury on Saturday (2-1). Senior Danielle Ferris scored both goals in the win on Saturday. Senior goalkeeper Rhianna Lapen had a career-high of 15 saves in the victory over Gettysburg. The Bobcats will travel to Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, Oct. 3 to play Catholic University, and on Saturday, Oct. 6, they will compete against another CAC opponent, Christopher Newport University, at home in Bobcat Stadium at 3 p.m.
Men’s Soccer:
On Wednesday night, the Bobcats played Westminster, but unfortunately were outscored by one, bringing home a loss (3-2). Sophomore Randy Putnam and first-year Kaps Kapende scored for Frostburg. Over the weekend, the Bobcats traveled to Salisbury, but were outscored once again (1-0). The Bobcats have a break this week, with no mid-week games, allowing them to prepare to take on CAC opponent Christopher Newport University on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium.
Field Hockey:
The Bobcats traveled to Juniata College on Wednesday to play a night game at 7 p.m. While the game did not go their way, you can read all about their outstanding performance last week and a brief interview with their head coach in the article: Field Hockey Earns an 8-0 Shutout Against Ferrum
Volleyball:
The Bobcats hosted Lebanon Valley, Neumann, and Christopher Newport over the weekend in the Frostburg Quad. On Friday night, the Bobcats played CNU, losing the match 1-3 (25-23, 11-25, 14-25, 10-25). Saturday’s match against Lebanon Valley also did not turn out the way the Bobcats had hoped, resulting in a sweep for LVC (19-25, 23-25, 10-25). On Saturday, the Bobcats also played Neumann. The Bobcats lost the first set of the match against Neumann, but won the following three to take home the win. The next match for the Bobcats will be over the weekend when they travel to play in the Rowan Quad at Rowan, against Rowan, Scranton, and Eastern on Oct. 5-6.
Men’s and Women’s Cross Country:
The cross country team hosted the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 29, with both the men’s and the women’s teams earning respectable places in the race. The men finished second place, out of three participating teams; the women finished fourth place, out of five participating teams. Junior Sarah McMurray ran to a fifth place finish, leading the Bobcats. Both the men and the women will run again on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the DeSales Invitational.
Women’s Tennis:
The Bobcats earned an 8-1 win against Penn State Altoona on Saturday, Sept. 29. They also played against Pitt-Greensburg on Sunday, where they won 7-2. The Bobcats will play in their last two matches of their fall season next weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6-7 when they play Juniata and Bethany at home.
Men’s Tennis:
The Bobcats played against Pitt-Greensburg on Sunday. Frostburg won 8-1. They will play their last match of the fall season against Juniata on Saturday, Oct. 6 against Juniata.
Football:
The Bobcats had a by-week this weekend, but will play again next Saturday, Oct. 6 when they travel to Dover, Del. to take on Wesley.
