Jamaal Windom Makes His Mark on FSU
Student, brother, teammate and more, Jamaal Windom is a well-rounded student athlete who puts faith and prayer in the Lord to help him throughout his day.
Jamaal Windom is a recent transfer here at Frostburg State University. Coming from Potomac State College of West Virginia University (WVU), Jamaal has found ways to make his mark here at FSU. Trying out for the 2014-2015-baseball season, Windom impressed his teammates as well as coaches with his amazing outfield capabilities. Covering left, center, and right outfield, Jamaal is able to vigorously use his quickness to catch ground and fly balls.
Baseball is not the only sport Windom excels in. As a well-rounded athlete, Jamaal has played football, basketball, as well as track and field throughout his high school career at Salem High School in Virginia Beach. His future as a Division 1 athlete was fallen short when Jamaal was injured during his junior year. A dislocated left shoulder, resulting in bad nerve damage, caused for Windom to be out and resting for two and a half months. After deciding to continue his education at Potomac State College, Windom realized his love for baseball could not be left unattended.
After focusing on education and baseball at the two-year college, Potomac State College of WVU, Windom decided Frostburg State University would be a good fit. Although transferring is not always the easiest thing in the world, Windom stated that, “the teammates and coaches were very welcoming. It was just challenging to get adjusted to a new routine and how they go about their business.” With the help of his teammates and coaches, Windom worked well with the team in achieving the astounding season’s record of 29-3, with their most recent win against Marymount College with the final score of 5-1.
When asked what his future goals were, as far as the seasons goes, Windom stated, “I want to help my team do whatever I can to get the ring and go as far as we can for the conference, regionals and D3 series.” Along with his future in baseball, Windom also has a future in the criminal justice field. Majoring in criminal justice, Windom plans on being an FBI agent.
Off the field, Jamaal Windom enjoys spending time with his family as well as friends. Being an older brother to 17-year-old Malcolm, Jamaal serves in setting a good example for his younger brother. Along with setting a good example, Jamaal makes sure he keeps God first in his every day life. When asked what inspirational quote helps him to get through each day, Jamaal stated, “Proverbs 3:5: Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Along with this bible verse, Windom says the Lord’s Prayer before each game asking for guidance on the field.
Jamaal Windom has a bright future here at Frostburg State University. Planning on continuing his baseball career, throughout his next year, Windom will be a great asset to the men’s baseball team. Along with continuing to keep God first on his path, the sky is the limit for Jamaal Windom.
