Women’s Basketball Bounces Back from Wesley Loss to Beat Penn State-Harrisburg

On Feb. 4, 2015 the Bobcat came to the court with a point to prove. After their most recent loss against Wesley College on January 31, these ladies came to the court prepared and ready to challenge Penn State Harrisburg.

Although the Bobcats have had some defeating games, their dedication and strive to win is shown throughout their continuous hard work contributed in these games. So much so, that in their most recent game against Penn State-Harrisburg the Bobcats captivated a victorious win with a final score of 79-66.

While the Lions had the first advantage leading the score by 6-5 it wasn’t before long until the lady Bobcats soon recovered ending the first half with an outstanding score of 40-19. This accomplishing win proved that the Bobcat ladies are still a team to be reckoned with.

When asked how she thought the season was going so far, Senior Ronje James stated, “It’s been different from what I’ve experienced in terms of better and worse. We’re getting better with communicating and learning with each other.”

Although the team has had some losses the Bobcats have used those losses as an incentive toward working together and more diligently in order to become prepared for the future games ahead. The Bobcat instructed amazing teamwork throughout their most recent game win. They worked together as a whole to achieve a win. Although the lady wolverines made a come back through the second half of the game, it wasn’t enough to overpower the Bobcats.

Leading the Bobcats to an outstanding victory was assisted by the starting five Bobcats, Shaniqua Hall, Courtney Young (Jr.), Ronje James(Sr.), Kasha Fields (So.), and Jasmine Walker (Sr.). Senior Ronje Young had a superb amount of points totaling with 27 along with eight rebounds and five steals, as well as Jasmine Walker following closely behind with a total of 15 points and five rebounds. Along with these game stat leaders Shanique Hall and Bria Jones greatly helped the team in assisting points.

This impressive win against Penn State Harrisburg gave not only the Bobcats a sense of pride and accomplishment, but also gives the Bobcats motivation to finish the season strong making themselves as well as their school, proud.

Senior Ronje James also stated, “I’m really sad to leave because the team is going to be really good next year and I won’t be a part of it”. There is no doubt this seasons team (2014-15) is filled with talented athletes. With the continuous guide and assistance from head coach Carrie Saunders, the future bobcat ladies will be in excellent hands.

Unsure of what the future holds the team will confidently go into the next home game, next Wednesday, against southern Virginia. Hoping to stay upon the winning streak these Bobcats will continue to practice hard prepping themselves for their next game. Frostburg State University will encourage the women’s basketball team in the hopes of finishing off a great season.
