Women’s Lax Suffers Huge Loss to York College of Pa.

FROSTBURG – Frostburg State suffered a conference loss to York college, Wednesday, 16-4. For the lady Bobcats, their goals came in the second half from junior midfielders Emani Byrd and Molly Hart, junior attack Megan Hart and freshman attack Morgan Cavey. York had two lead scorers, sophomore attack Kayleigh Phillips and midfielder Melissa Meehiling; both were tied at 3 goals. In the net, Frostburg’s Dylan Teitelbaum had 12 saves while York recorded no saves.

York struck first with an unassisted goal by freshman midfielder Claudia DiVenti, three minutes into the match. With some help from junior and senior attacks Rachel Sarks and Allison Kolacy, Phillips and Meehling gave the lady Spartans a 6-0 lead with 14:14 left in the first half. An unassisted goal by Katelyn Cattrano minutes later extended the lead to 7. York finished out the first half with goals from Phillips, Cattrano, freshman midfielders Nicole Clauter and Alyssa Rankin, and senior attack Brittany Noell. The lady Spartans led 12-0 at half time.

Thirty-seconds into the second half Byrd, assisted by Megan Hart, put Frostburg on the board. Junior midfielder Jordan Cessella answered right back for the lady Spartans with an unassisted goal with 26:45 remaining in the game. An exchange of goals between Frostburg’s Molly and Megan Hart and Cavey, and York’s Noel, Clauter, and sophmore midfielder Katherine Burk finished out the final 10 minutes of the game.

Frostburg returns to action on Saturday, April 9th, when they travel to Dover, Delaware to take on Wesley at 11 a.m. York will host Southern Virginia on Saturday as well. The game is set to start at noon.
