Women’s Soccer Loses to West Virginia State

Frostburg State University’s Women’s Soccer loses 1-0 to the West Virginia State University (WVSU) Yellow Jackets. The Bobcats traveled to West Virginia State Wednesday November 3rd. After an early goal was scored, the Bobcats could not make a comeback.

West Virginia State scored in the first two minutes of the game. The Yellow Jackets took on the Bobcat defense and shot the ball into the back right corner. After the goal, the Bobcats tried to counter but could not equalize.

The Bobcats had a total of 23 shots with 17 being on goal. The Yellow Jackets only had 5 shots, with one being on goal. The Bobcats had most of the possession during the game with Cat Smith, the wide back, taking shots on goal. She totaled 7 shots with 5 being on goal. Smith had a great defensive game, she made many tackles, one being in a 1v1 opportunity with the Yellow Jackets.

The game was physical, and 2 WVSU players received yellow cards. It did not change the pace of the game though. Mackenzie Alonso subbed in and caused the Yellow Jacket defense to make mistakes. This gave her a chance to score, but ultimately did not. Audra Curtin, Lela Clark, and Caroline Burton all had several shots on goal.

The Bobcats record moves to 11-5-1. Their last game of the regular season will be Saturday November 6th against Fairmont State.
