Women’s Soccer Stands as Third Seed in the CAC Tournament

Women’s Soccer has just concluded their regular season by finishing strong with a record of 10-6-3 overall. Now titled as the third seeded team in the 2015 CAC Tournament, the first match is set to begin Saturday, October 31.

Frostburg State University will open its stadium up to the lady Spartans for first match of the tournament. The lady Bobcats were victorious in the season’s early match against York College of PA. The lady Spartans now stand as the sixth seeded team and will challenge the lady Bobcats for redemption against the 1-0 game they were defeated in.

Southern Virginia University’s lady Knights were overpowered by the Bobcats Tuesday, October 27th. The final score of the game stands at 4-0, three goals in which came from the Bobcats and one accidental goal coming from the Knights. SVU was unable to catch the net due to the persistence of the Bobcats defense along with senior goalie Paige Gray making two saves. The results for the shots on goal stand at 13-2 in which FSU was able to grab three of the thirteen they attempted.

The first half remained un-scored as both teams battled for the lead. After a slow moving first half the lady Bobcats came back after half time scoring within the first minute. Freshman Danielle Ferris was able to give the 1-0 lead for the Bobcats off a perfect assist made by freshman Anais Ventura. Within the next fifteen minutes a mistake caused by the lady Knights shocked many. A mistaken kick, made from SVU’s defense, caught the net and excelled the Bobcats to a 2-0 lead. The lady Spartans would then try for a comeback but fail.

Sophomore Melanie Bell and junior Leah Yurko brought in the final two points of the 4-0 win. This dominating win finished up the Bobcats regular season giving them the confidence before going into the CAC Tournament.

The opening round of the upcoming 2015 CAC Tournament consists of fifth seeded Mary Washington competing against the fourth seeded Salisbury. The second-first-contest match consists of York College PA competing against Frostburg State University. The winner the YCP and FSU game will move on to compete against the second seeded team St. Mary’s of Maryland on Tuesday, November 3rd. The winner of the Mary Washington and Salisbury game will move on to compete against the first seeded team, Christopher Newport. That game will also take place on Tuesday, November 3rd.

The lady Bobcats hope to become reigning champions for the second time in a row. Defeating Mary Washington in the 2-0-championship game last year, the Bobcats are going into this tournament seen the “underdogs.” The team has been preparing for this moment and is ready to face on what is ahead of them.

All are welcome to encourage the lady Bobcats as they take on the lady Spartans at FSU’s home field, Saturday, October 30th.
