Women’s Volleyball Continues Winning Streak
The Frostburg State volleyball team battled York (Pa.) to a five-set thriller in Capital Athletic Conference action, and won 3-2, Wednesday evening October 21, 2015. After taking their third win in a row the Bobcats improve to 14-14 overall and 3-3 in the CAC, while York (Pa.) falls to 10-15 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
Frostburg once again did not disappoint with their hard work and dedication to pull out this hard fought win. Sophomore Naya Cheatem led FSU with a game-high 24 kills and a career-best six blocks. Classmate Sabrina Roberts added a career-best seven blocks, while fellow sophomore Madelyn Torres posted a game-high five service aces and 39 assists for the Bobcats. Sophomore Lindsey Scepura contributed 12 digs in the effort.
When asked about why this game against York was carried to five sets, Naya Cheatem replies with, “we started out very slow and played down to their level, which isn’t very good.” FSU pushed through a rough game and demonstrated what hard practices and team work can do for a team that is dedicated to winning.
“We practiced hard and watched what the other team did and took advantage of what they were giving us to bring home this win,” Naya Cheatem says. Thanks to the leadership of the coaching staff, and players like Madelyn Torres, Lindsey Scepura, and Megan Wentz the Bobcats brought home a well-appreciated win and a confidence booster for the whole team.
FSU returns to action on Saturday, October 24 when they travel to Salisbury for an 11:00 a.m. CAC match-up. The Bobcats will then face Alvernia at 1:00 pm.
