Forsome, the Olympics are an excuse to watch sports we wouldn’t normally watch on a day-to-day basis. One sport that caught the eye of many while watching the Beijng winter games was figure skating. With the figure skaters gliding on the ice with their sharp skates, one can only wonder, what are the results of the month-long competition?
Starting off the Gold Medal Events was a team event; women’s single skating- free skating. Taking home gold was Kamila Valieva from the ROC, (Russian Olympic Committee). Kaori Sakamoto from Japan won silver, and Madeline Schizas from Canada won bronze. The US took fourth with Karen Chen as the represented skater. The next Gold Metal Event was the men’s single skating- free skating. The US took gold this time as Nathan Chen scored a whopping total of 332.60 points. For the men’s single skating, they performed a short program and a free skating program. The points combined are what determine the medal winners. On Valentine’s Day, the Ice dance- free dance occurred. This is a partner skate where the two figure skaters must perfect a routine in regards to rhythm and free dance.
