Bobcats Men’s Track & Field Takes Home First Place, Van Wie Re-Sets Record

Both FSU men’s and women’s track teams competed at the Falcon Invitational hosted by Messiah College on Saturday, April 13.

Senior Holly Van Wie broke her own school record for the second straight week in the hammer throw by throwing 44.57 meters, earning her second place.

The men’s track and field team took first place out of 18 teams with three relay titles and two individual crowns to earn a meet-best 128 points.

Senior Robert Romano won for the fourth-consecutive individual event for the meet with a victory in the 1,500-meter run with his season best 3:55.67. This time beats his last season’s best of 3:56.49 that was ranked 27th in the country coming into Saturday’s meet.

Frostburg’s 4×100-meter relay team of first-year Demetrius Sims, sophomore James Schwab, sophomore Dajon Wiseman, and sophomore Clayton Washington took first place with a time of 42.90. The 4×400 meter relay team of junior Tyriek Charles, senior Matthew Robinson, Sims, and Washington also won their event with a time of 3:28.84.

Washington finished in the 100-and 200-meter dash with both having top five efforts. Washington and Wiseman both competed in the 100 prelims, with Washington taking second and Wiseman taking fourth.

Junior John Kerns completed in the weight throw, having a season-best of 51.62 meters, which passes his previous best of 59.95 meters that was ranked 42nd in nation. Senior Michael Belcher was the runner-up in the hammer throw, throwing 48.60 meters. Junior James Naill competed in javelin, throwing 51.49 meter and taking fourth place.

In the 5,000-meter dash, sophomore Braxton Clark took third, while senior Matthew Whitley and junior Timmy Wolodkin placed fifth and seventh, respectively.

In the long jump, senior Shamar Nelson took fourth place, senior Christian Healey finished fifth, and junior Kevon Adams finished sixth.

The Bobcats will complete at Gettysburg College for the Mason-Dixon Invitational next Saturday.
