Cavey Reaches 200 Points as Women’s Lacrosse Drops 2 CAC Games

On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, the Frostburg State Women’s Lacrosse team hosted CAC team York College of Pennsylvania, ranked #8 in the country, at Bobcat Stadium.

York College started the game strong scoring nine goals within the first 13 minutes of the game. After the ninth goal, the Bobcats offense came alive. Senior Morgan Cavey scored back-to-back goals at 17:12 and again at 14:24, cutting the Spartan’s lead to seven. Sophomores Stephanie King and Summer Cavey each handed out an assist to M. Cavey’s goals. The score was 9-2.

M. Cavey’s third score of the opening half came at 12:37 to cut the deficit to 10-3. Sophomore Lindsay Kohlmann assisted this goal. By the end of the first half, York College found the back of the net nine more times making the score 18-3 at the half.

In the second half, the Bobcats came out solid. King scored her first and only goal of the day within the first two minutes of the half, making the score 18-4. Three different Spartans found the net after King’s goal to extend their lead to 17. The score was 21-4 with 21:04 left in the game.

M. Cavey later scored twice, once at the 19:36 mark of the game and then later on with 3:29 left in the game. M. Cavey ended up with five of Frostburg’s six goals in a 23-6 home loss to No. 8 York (Pa.) in CAC action.

FSU v. CNU 

On Saturday, April 13, the Women’s Lacrosse team traveled for another CAC match-up. The Bobcats played at Christopher Newport University [CNU]. Sophomore Teresa Stabler made her debut as goalkeeper for the Bobcats and had nine saves on the day.

Christopher Newport opened the game on a 6-0 run before Frostburg’s first-year Shelby Brunett found the back of the net with 21:41 left in the first half. The Captains still led 6-1. CNU scored two more goals before King shot her first goal of the day. King scored two more goals within the next four minutes of the game.

The CNU Captains went on to score seven more goals before halftime. They led 16-4.

In the second half of action, CNU scored within the first two minutes. However, about four minutes in, M. Cavey scored her first goal of the game. She found the back of the net again with 6:28 to go in the games.

Junior Molly Biggers and sophomore Maggie Roszko each scored a goal in the second half. CNU won 21-8. The Bobcats fall to 3-11 overall and 0-3 in conference.

With her two goals and one assist, M.Cavey became the seventh player in FSU history to reach 200 points.

The Bobcats will face off against Southern Virginia next Tuesday, April 16 at 4:30 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium.
