Crime Lines 01/31/2023 – 02/06/2023

01/31/2023 Damage to State Vehicle – A FSU police officer was traveling on Interstate 68 to pick up a student at UPMC Western Maryland Hospital when he noticed a tractor trailer recap tire lying in the middle of the slow lane of traffic. There was a vehicle to his left in the fast lane of traffic which prevented him from changing lanes. The officer decreased his speed before running over the tire. The exhaust became louder, and the front bumper of the vehicle sustained damage as well. A Motor Vehicle Accident Form was completed.

01/31/2023 Theft – Misdemeanor – A FSU student came into UPD to report her state ID and debit card was stolen. The student advised she was in the Lane University Center lounge area, near Starbucks and when she left, she did not realize that she left her wallet where she had been sitting. The student went to the Information Desk and her wallet was there. When she received her wallet back, she noticed her state identification card and debit card were missing. A review of the occularis cameras shows a male subject sit down in the area where the FSU student was seated and is seen messing with something on the floor and pushes it under the couch with his foot. The male subject returns to the area and is seen retrieving the object he slid under the couch, and it appears that he removed something and place it into his pocket. This case remains open pending further investigation.

01/31/2023 Suspicious – Officers were reviewing the occularis camera system for a previous incident and while operating the system the officer observed on live camera a male ascending the South Exit Stairwell toward the second floor of Diehl Hall. The male drew the officer’s attention because he was waving what appeared to be a large butterfly style knife back and forth with an exposed blade. Officers contacted dispatch to have the RA on duty meet them at Diehl Hall. Officers were able to make contact with the subject who is a FSU student and he advised that the knife was a training aid, and the blade was not sharp. The student revealed he had five additional knives in the same style. Review of the knives revealed the blades to be dull or plastic. The student was advised of the FSU weapons policy and that the knives were not allowed in the dorms. The student was escorted to his vehicle in the Center Street Lot where officers returned the training aids (knives) and had him secure them in his trunk. Judicial Referral Submitted.

02/02/2023 Narcotics Complaint – Officers responded to Frost Hall for an odor of CDS. A walk through of the second floor was conducted. Officers were able to detect an odor coming from one specific room, however negative contact was made. Judicial Board Referral was submitted.

02/03/2023 Narcotics Complaint – Officers responded to Westminster Hall for an odor of suspected marijuana. Contact was made with the FSU student that occupied the room in question. Two additional FSU students were located in the room. The occupants admitted to smoking marijuana while inside the room. The three denied having any other marijuana in the room. Judicial Board Submitted.

02/04/2023 Assist Other Agency (FPD) – Officers assisted FPD on Bowery Street after FSUPD received an email detailing an assault that occurred. Officers spoke to two individuals who were witnesses to an assault that took place on Alley #33 and Oak Street. Officers later made contact with the victim and several suspects who provided details of the assault. An application for charges will be submitted by FPD. Judicial Board Referral has been submitted.

02/04/2023 Harassment – A FSU student arrived at FSUPD to report a threat he received on social media that was related to an incident that happened the previous night. The student was advised to contact police immediately if anything seems out of the ordinary or occurs and not to take matters into his own hands. No suspect at this time.

02/04/2023 Tampering with M/V – Officers reported that someone spit on a driver’s side door and window while the police vehicle was parked in the Hitchins Lot. A review of the Ocularis Surveillance footage revealed a group of five juveniles entering the parking lot and walking up to the police vehicle. A search of the area was conducted; however, no suspects were located. Officers later observed the same group of juveniles walking North through the Center Street Lot. Contact was made with the group on Wood Street, in the area of Charles Street. The subject fitting the description of the suspect from the video was identified. The suspect initially denied spitting on the police vehicle stating he was spitting down. After being confronted by evidence of the cameras the suspect continuously apologized. The investigating officer was provided with contact information for charging purposes.

02/04/2023 Alcohol Violation – Officers were dispatched to Annapolis Hall for a large party . Contact was made with the resident of the room in question. She advised invited the group over to hang, but did not provide the alcohol. All partygoers left the dorm without any issues. All alcohol was disposed of on site. Judicial Board Referral Submitted.

02/04/2023 Assist Other Agency (FPD) – Officers responded to the Beach Club for a possible fight in progress. Upon arrival officers made contact with the owner who advised a male patron had attempted to re-enter the bar shortly after leaving and was denied entry due to the bar being at capacity. The male refused to accept that answer from the bouncer and attempted to push through the door before being turned away by staff. FPD arrived and spoke with that individual.

02/05/2023 Noise Complaint – FPD requested FSUPD to respond to a noise complaint in the area of Charles Street, several checks were made. Officers were unable to locate any issues. FPD was notified.

02/05/2023 Suspicious – FSU maintenance contacted FSUPD to advise of a subject walking around the parking lot at the practice field. After a check of the area, officers could not locate anyone and there was nothing suspicious in the area.

02/06/2023 Assist Other Agency (FPD) – Officers responded to Bowery Street to assist FPD with a suicidal subject. FSUPD stood by while FPD conducted their investigation. The subject was transported to UPMC via ambulance. Subject was not an FSU student.

02/06/2023 Assist Other Agency (FPD) – Officers responded to Mill Street to assist FPD with a suicidal subject. FSUPD stood by while FPD conducted their investigation. The subject was transported to UPMC via ambulance. Subject was not an FSU student.

02/06/2023 Narcotics Complaint – While officers conducted a foot patrol in the Upper Quad near Frost Hall, a strong odor of marijuana was detected. Officers made contact with the resident in the room which was the source of the odor. The FSU student admitted that he had been smoking in the room and advised he did not have any more marijuana. The subject did provide the officers with drug paraphernalia he used to smoke marijuana. Evidence was processed at Headquarters. Judicial Board Referral Submitted.
