Frostburg Falls to Tampa Spartans, 16-6

The Frostburg Mens Lacrosse team traveled to North Carolina this past Saturday to take on Tampa in their second game of the 2022 season. The Spartans headed into this game as the second ranked team in NCAA D2. In keeping with their track record, the Spartans started off very strong, tallying up to five goals in the first quarter, which reflected in the score compared to Frostburg’s standing 0. As the game progressed, the Spartans continued their assault and increased their lead to 7-0. With the Spartans being in control for the entire first half, the Bobcats had a hard time getting their heads in the game, this showed when nothing notable took place on either side of the field.

Eventually, Frostburg finally got on the board thanks to a goal scored by the senior, Matthew Ward. In response, the Spartans tacked on two more goals. Frostburg senior, Jake Bowman,  scored a goal with his teammate, Matthew Ward, fixing the score to be 9-3 by halftime.

In the second half of the game, The Bobcats started off strong, almost instantly scoring a goal thanks to player Bubba Love. Even so, the Spartan offense was strong and they continued to score four more goals. Bobcats responded with a goal of their own, completed by Senior, Ty Oehlerking. Before the end of the third, the Tampa Spartans would tack on one more goal, making the score 14-5. Tampa did not slow down in the fourth, adding on two more goals to make their overall total 16. The Bobcats scored one more in turn, though it did them little favors with the ending score of the game. Bobcats Bowman and Ward finished the game with two goals each, while Love and Oehlerking would both put up one goal each.

This is the second game of the season for their Bobcats, their overall track record being a 0-2 wins to losses. On Saturday, the Bobcats will travel to Walsh, Ohio in pursuit of their first win of the season.
