FSU Lacrosse Takes On Rank 4 Mercy College

On Saturday April 30, the Frostburg State University (FSU) Men’s Lacrosse team hosted a top five lacrosse team in the mountain east conference, the Mercy Mavericks. In their second to last game of the season the Bobcats loss by six.

For the first half, the score ended pretty close. It took an effort for Frostburg to bring themselves out of a four point hole so early in the game. The Mavericks scored the first two points of the game.

The Bobcats first score came from Matthew Ward assisted by Chase Buckwalter. This score came from a man up situation due to the penalty on the Mavericks in the final seconds of the first period.

This score was great for Frostburg, but their rate of scoring just was not as frequent as Mercy’s. Mercy scored three more times after the score by FSU’s Ward.

Apparently, Frostburg was not shook by the scoring of Mercy. Just like the last scoring hole they were in, Frostburg remained calm and scored two more points to come within two points of Mercy’s lead. The second period ended with a score of 5-3.

The theme of the game until half time had been who can remain the most sound in the midst of scoring streaks by the other team, and like FSU, Mercy did not flinch at the goals by the Bobcats.

During the third period, both teams increased their score by two points. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, the Mavericks hit a boost in there intensity in the fourth period.

The Mavericks scored 5-1 in the fourth period. The final score of the game was 12-6 Mercy winning.

The day was not all bad for Frostburg as it was the day seniors were honored. Of the team 14 seniors were recognized for rounding up the Frostburg careers. These included Gavin Schattall, Kevin Reuther, Jake Bowman, Cade Price, Connor Tollus, Joey Boros, Ty Oehlerking, Austin Linn, Peter Karmilowicz, Tanner Donaldson, Griffin Ocker, Justin Brick, Matt Sharkey, Matt Ward, and Nick Nordhausen.

Frostburg has one more game of the season which will be on Wednesday May 4 against Molloy College.
