FSU Softball Loses Two in Concord

On Friday, April 15th, the Frostburg State University (FSU) Bobcats traveled to West Virginia to take on the Concord University (CU) Mountain Lions. Concord was 5-2 in the last seven games before this one.

Prior to this game, Frostburg had two games postponed against Shepard University. This could possibly have taken a toll on Frostburg, making them a little less sharp for the doubleheader against Concord, but Concord handled business nonetheless.

The first game was very defensive. Not much scoring took place, as scoring only took place in four different innings. The action started at the top of the third inning. FSU’s Sierra Sanderson stole second base and that allowed Kennedy Brumagin to score on a throwing error made by the pitcher. A play later, due to another pitching malfunction, Sanderson was able to scamper home for a two score lead over the Mountain Lions.

The bottom of the third inning is where Concord retaliated. Because Concord had a player on every base, there was an easy single hit for the runner on third base to run home and score.

Concord began to lead 3-2 at the bottom of the fifth inning. Frostburg tied the score at the top of the sixth inning 3-3. On the final play of the game, Concord, already having a player on third base, scored by having a player run on a walk.

Just like game one, the game was very slow. The first score came from the Mountain Lions in the fourth inning. Concord scored five times before Frostburg was able to put a run on the board. At the top of the seventh inning, Sanderson hit a home run that placed Ava Gnibus, and Ryann Darling at home base. Though it was a good try, Frostburg was unable to tie the game, losing 3-5.

After this game, Frostburg was still with a positive record of 19-12. The Bobcats’ next game would be on Saturday, April 16th, at 1 P.M. and 3 P.M. After the weekend, FSU increased their record by one making it 20-13.

FSU’s next game will take place at home in Frostburg against Fairmont State. This will be a  doubleheader with one game at 2 P.M. and 4 P.M.
