Frostburg Opens Season With Loss To Lake Erie

The Frostburg Men’s lacrosse team opened their 2022 campaign this past Saturday with a game against the Lake Erie Storms.

Early on in the first quarter, the Storms got off to a very fast start, scoring 3 goals almost immediately. Frostburg would finally get on the board with about two minutes left to go in the first half thanks to senior Bobcat, Joey Boros. After the Bobcats first goal of the game, the Storms tacked on two more goals to their total, increasing their lead to 5-1 by the end of the first quarter.

The Bobcats entered the second quarter with renewed strength. Bobcat senior, Ty Oehlerking, gave the Bobcats their second goal of the match at that time. Lake Erie continued to add more goals before Frostburg senior, Matthew Ward, managed to score a goal for the Bobcats. This goal boosted the score to an 8-3 lead for the Storms at the half time call.

Lake Erie took off in the second half, scoring another goal to extend their lead to six. Shortly after the goal scored by the Storms, the Bobcats produced a fast one of their own thanks to Boros. Shortly after, redshirt junior, Tanner Donaldson, scored two straight goals to cut the Storms lead to three. Lake Erie tacked on another goal in this game to extend their lead to 10-6 by the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, both teams were very evenly matched as they would go up and down the field scoring goals on both sides. Lake Erie would score two straight goals before Ward scored a goal for the Bobcats. The Bobcats gained one more goal before the end of regulation from Bubba Love.

In the end, the Bobcats gave a challenging game, but in the end fell short to the Lake Erie Storms, leaving the score at 14-11.

The Bobcats will play Tampa at Charlotte next Saturday for their next matchup.
